Yorkshire Ramblers' Club

Welcome to the YRCs website.

An active club for over 117 years, the YRC is one of the oldest mountaineering and caving clubs in the world and retains an active membership running meets in the UK  & across the world.  Despite its pedestrian name, the YRC is not a 'walking club' nor is it associated with the "young upstart" the Ramblers Association.  The YRC is dedicated to exploration above and below ground; please read more in About YRC.

Mountaineering, caving and exploration require individual skill and judgement combined with team work to allow people to achieve objectives beyond their individual capabilities. Whether you are scaling himalayan giants, delving into unknown caves in China, skiing in the alps, revisiting Gaping Gill, climbing at Armscliff Crags or walking in the dales, mountaineering and caving can provide challenge, excitement and fun for people of all ages particularly if you are doing it with like minded individuals.  Joining the YRC, or any other reputable club, will allow you to develop your skills and experience within a group of friends and is likely to be both safer and more enjoyable than doing it on your own.

The YRC does not provide any accredited training for the activities its members indulge in and all members participate at their own risk. That said the experience of others will help you develop and there is no limit to the advice and encouragement your friends in the club will provide.

WARNING
The YRC endorses the UIAA participation statement and its equal applicability to caving and potholing;

'Climbing and mountaineering [with caving and potholing] are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement'

These activities should therefore only be undertaken by individuals or groups with the necessary specialist equipment, training and experience.

If you want accredited training in adventurous activities see the links section for a selection of reputable training organisations or ask the members for their recommendations.
