Going Underground

Introduction to Giant’s Hole, Peak District

The YRC have been venturing underground for well almost 130 years and we still have a group of hard-core of cavers who continue to push for new discoveries at home and abroad.

Caving trips are organised during a few club meets each year, including the August family meet based at our Lowstern hut, where members can bring their kids to try new things such as trad climbing on some easy local crags and have a go at caving somewhere like Lower Long Churn Cave. You can read more about a typical family in a recent Meet Report.

Pools and speleothems in Hei Dong (Dark Cave), Guangxi

YRC cavers have been on numerous successful expeditions to the karst in Guangxi Province as part of the China Caves project. Many kilometres of new cave have been surveyed. The YRC Journal articles detailing these achievements can be found on the Expedition Reports page by scrolling down to the caving section.
