Moroccan Meets

This image shows a small group of Berber houses nestling beneath the hugely impressive rock towers and pinnacles at Tadawt n’Tablah. These were visited in 2016 when we ran a two-week mule-supported camping trek further east in the Jebel Sarhro. Very varied terrain, great views, amazing rock formations, a good crew, friendly Berbers and the opportunity to take in a few scrambling summits on the way made for a very enjoyable and relaxed trek. In addition to the geology, historical interest was provided by an ascent of Jbel Bou Gafer, the mountain stronghold of the Aït Atta tribe who were beseiged by vastly superior numbers of French colonial forces in 1933, but held them off for a month before finally surrendering. Another trek had originally been planned for the 2020 to visit the Jebel Siroua, but Covid had other ideas and the trek had to be abandoned. The first week in Tafraout was however excellent as you can read in the Meet Report. The trek was then rescheduled for 2024.

The 2024 meet was set up as two part meet: one week in Tafraout climbing, scrambling and walking followed by a week’s trekking in the Jebel Siroua. You can read more about this recent trip in the Meet Report.
