Introductory meet, Lowstern

Robert, Becca (with Ghunsa), Adam, Michael, Yasmin and Simon near Norber

Meet report, 28-31st August 2026. The intention had been to hold the meet at Low Hall Garth.  However, the restricted parking there with only four vehicles on the adjacent car park and no longer any  parking by the barn or ford made this less appropriate. Hence the switch back to Lowstern.

The select group at the Introductory Meet had mixed weather and their numbers were supplemented by Solvig with her children and their friends who arrived to stay at Lowstern that weekend. The youngsters enjoyed both the socialising and the outings.

The main walk on the Saturday saw everyone set off from the hut up through the Ingleborough Hall tunnel, up the Long Lane track to Trow Gill.  Ingleborough was covered in mist, so the party turned east towards Long Scar and then a slow descent south viewing the Norber erratics and returning along the Pennine Bridleway to Clapham.

Yasmin and Grace

Solvig and her crew had a varied weekend starting with a visit to Stump Cross Cavern where they learnt about the history of the Dales’ nether regions.  The children hunted for fossils and cracked open geodes from Morocco.  They also visited the Kilnsey Show and Malham Cove. The weather was highly mixed, but fun was had by all and a plan made for an annual meet-up.

On Sunday, Michael, Grace, Simon and Yasmin took a walk past Nutta Farm (that’s the one which can be seen from Lowstern looking southwest) to Clapham Station and back along the road to Clapham, through the village and back to Lowstern.

Yasmin Raine

Brian, Anne Marie and Ged took a walk up Ingleborough.  On the way down they met Robert.  Legs well exercised, they descended to Ingleton’s Inglesport café and settled in for a long session with a few cavers already ensconced.
