
19th July 2025 , starting at 10am at the Crooked Billet pub in Saxton, just South of Tadcaster.
The walk will take in the historic site of the Towton Battlefields, where on the 29th March 1461 the largest and bloodiest battle on British soil took place the between the Yorkists and the House of Lancaster. It is estimated that between 50,000 and 75,000 people were involved in the battle of which at least 25,000 lost their lives. In addition, the route includes visiting ‘Lead’ chapel which originally dates back to the 14th Century and crossing the famous / infamous Cock Beck.
The walk will start and finish at the Crooked Billet pub, Saxton and will follow a ten mile flat circuit on good footpaths through farmland and woodland.
After the walk it is planned to return to the Crooked Billet where we can retire for food and a drink.
