Alpine Mountaineering

Barre des Ecrins from the Ecrins Refuge

YRC members have a long tradition of alpine mountaineering going back to the early days of the Club over 130 years ago. The most recent Alpine Meet was in 2025, when a welcome return was made to France to visit the Écrins massif, based in Ailefroide. The Club part-sponsored some guide-led alpine skills training and this new knowledge was put to good use on several ascents including the Dôme de Neige des Écrins (4015m). Others sport climbed, tackled via ferrata and undertook a variety of mountain and valley walks as detailed in the Meet Report.

You can read more about past similar meets in the Alpine Meets section of the Overseas Meet Reports archive.
