18th-26th April 2027. Cala Gonone has long been established as one of the main sport climbing areas in Sardinia and as such attracts many international visitors. Nestled along the rugged eastern coastline of Sardinia, this picturesque seaside town is a paradise for rock climbers. With its towering cliffs and crystal-clear waters, this area offers a wide variety of sport routes across the grades to suit climbers of all abilities. The majority of the climbing here is single pitch sport routes, offering many different styles from slabs to steep walls and fierce overhangs on hard limestone rock.

There is also some multi-pitch climbing to be found in Cala Gonone. Grotta dei Colombi crag has fully bolted multi-pitch routes up to 210m long in the F6b to F6c grade range. La Poltrona and Biddiriscottai are both popular crags where all the routes are fully bolted across a wide range of grades.

Cala Gonone also offers spectacular mountain and coast walking, and scrambling in the Gennargentu National Park, ranging from accessible coastal paths to demanding inland peaks including Sardinia’s highest, Punta Marmora, 1834m. There really is something for everyone here. Paddy Dillon’s Cicerone guide is currently out of print but may possibly be obtained on eBay, as can the Rother walking guide (or use their app). The Sunflower guide to Sardinia was updated in 2025. Another guide is the Sardinia Hiking Guide 2026 which is available on Amazon. The Sardegna Sentieri website is loaded with photos and routes to whet your appetite, and also has a free companion app.

The Club had a very successful meet to the same location in the spring of 2004 with most people staying for ten days. The extended meet report is certainly worth a read to find out more.

This year we had a very successful hotel based meet in Mallorca and at a similar price the Hotel Brancamaria seems to fit the bill. There are three economy rooms which are slightly cheaper but a classic room half board is £868 (434 per person). Book direct with the hotel as most booking sites are considerably more expensive.

Another cheaper option is the Lido Residence, a collection of apartments near the beach and about 15 min walk from the Brancamaria. 2 bedroom apartments for four people are from £103 per night plus £55 cleaning charge. This works out at £194 per person for the week plus food. The apartments look good but they have basic kitchen facilities and very limited communal areas. If you are interested in this option the best way forward is to use the Whatsapp group to liaise with other interested people. You can then indicate intentions on the booking form below.

At the time of publication many airlines have yet to finalise their schedules but flights depart from the North of England on a Sunday. Thus the core dates have been set Sun-Sun but this can be flexible when more flights become available.
