9-16th May 2026. This is a meet with two bases. We sail from Mallaig to Rum on Sunday 10th May in the morning to stay at the Rum Bunkhouse, a purpose built facility in the only hamlet on the island. We return to the mainland on Wednesday 13th May in the late afternoon to stay for the remainder of the week at the Blacksmith’s Bunkhouse in Corpach, just to the West of Fort William.
RUM
Many of you will have visited this beautiful and quiet island before. Whilst there is no rock climbing worth noting, the Rum Cuillin is an excellent and demanding circuit with some good scrambling, much of it avoidable if necessary. There are of course, shorter expeditions on offer and birdwatchers will find much to occupy their time. Rum has a village store which sells a surprisingly wide range of food including fresh and frozen fruit, vegetables and meat, however we will need to bring some basic provisions. The Club last visited Rum in May 2010 and you can read about it in the well-illustrated meet report in YRCJ 2010; 13(9): 43-47.

CORPACH
Located on the banks of the Narrows, between Loch Eil and Loch Linnhe, a few miles west of Fort William, Blacksmith’s Bunkhouse is part of the Snowgoose outdoor pursuits centre. There is so much rock climbing, mountaineering and walking available in the local area that it is hard to know where to start. Ben Nevis is close by with the Mamores, whilst Glen Etive and the more esoteric charms of Strontian are not far away. Anyone wanting to try canoeing or sea kayaking can hire equipment or take guided trips from the centre.

We have 14 places booked on Rum and we have the whole bunkhouse at Corpach, again 14 places. It is hoped you will be able to come for the whole meet, but if you can’t do that either just Rum or Corpach may be possible as long as it doesn’t prevent anyone else from doing the full week.

Update – Steve McCain now officially booked – this still leaves one free place for the Rum part of the meet, so if anyone fancies a trip to Rum, here’s your chance
I am coming on the Rum part of the meet, I won’t be attending the Corpach part.
