Climb Kamchatka’s Active Volcanoes

Mid-August to early September – dates not yet fixed

Among Kamchatka’s highest and most active volcanoes supported by 4 or 6WD truck, this route passes through the most active volcanic zone of the peninsula and along a 1000m asl plateau surrounded by nine of the area’s highest volcanoes. See the raw volcanic scenery, hear, feel and smell vulcanism - some only 20 years old. See the largest active Eurasian volcano, 4850m Kluchevskoy, and Tolbachik Volcano besides plenty of marmots, ground squirrels, foxes and bird life, and possibly bears.

Why Kamchatka?

• A less visited area on the Pacific Ring of Fire opening up for alpine clubs’ trips – visit before it becomes more commonplace and industrialised

• Dramatic active volcanic landscapes

• Four ascents without technical difficulty or serious altitude problems

• Good support - recommended by Tony Waltham

• A programme not on offer to individuals

• Most days could be taken as a rest day if needed

• Some of the Club’s usual suspects are already signed up – but the more the merrier/cheaper but only up to the limit the logistics allow

Express interest now or risk missing out.
